HT-986 PINK FINISH ALL PURPOSE
CASTING technical data [PDF]FABRICATION technical data [PDF]
UNITED’S # HT 986 ALLOY may be used for 9K - 18K casting, or
hand-made (rolling), which produces a Pink finished color.
You should obtain excellent results by following a few
simple instructions.
MELTING We do recommend pre-alloying all alloy and fine gold
with aggressive stirring & fluxing to assure a uniform mixture.
Step : 1 Pre- Alloying (Fine gold + alloy) Temperature 1050°
- 1060° C
1922° - 1940° F
Step : 2 Casting Temperature for 9 K – 14 K Alloyed Grain
990° - 1010° C
1814° - 1850° F
Casting Temperature for 18 K Alloyed Grain 1010° C / 1850° F
UNITED’S # HT 986 ALLOY is a Pink master alloy designed for
9 K to 18 K pink gold casting and rolling, which produces a pink finished
color. Alloy # HT 986 is much easier to cast, fabricate and set stones compared
to other colors.
KARATING The # HT 986 Pink Alloys and fine gold should be
melted together in a clean crucible. Put the alloy in the bottom of the
crucible and the fine gold on top. Initial melting temperature should be 1050º
C – 1060ºC / 1922º F - 1940º F. Drop the temperature somewhat before pouring as
listed below. Boric acid flux should be used to keep the metal clean during the
melting process. The molten metal should be mixed well with a stirring rod
before pouring to assure a good mix. A neutral or reducing cover gas is very
helpful in melting pink gold alloys.
POURING TEMP 9 K – 18 K - 1015ºC - 1030 ºC (Quench in water
within 3 min for 18K)
FOR INGOTS 1860ºF – 1886 ºF
